As far as high-performance luxury cars go, the trio tested here are undoubtedly some of the best. Although they all occupy a similar part of market, each one has its own personality and targets a slightly different type of buyer.
The Mercedes-AMG S63 is the most luxurious of the three. It has a sumptuous cabin filled with rich-feeling leather and beautiful finishes. It’s no slouch either. It packs a 577 horsepower 5.5L twin-turbo V8 under the hood that can rocket this luxury liner to 100km/hr in about 3.7 seconds. As quick as it is, this is not the choice for someone looking for a precision handling tool.
The Porsche Panamera is finally pleasant to look at now, if not breathtakingly beautiful. It also packs a twin-turbo V8 which produces 550 horsepower and a sprint to 100km/hr a tenth of a second quicker than the Mercedes. The ride is not as smooth as the Mercedes, but in terms of all-around performance, it is on a different level.
The BMW M6 stands out in this crowd thanks to its unique rear-wheel drive layout. The others use grippy all-wheel drive. It is also the most powerful, thanks to a 600 horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine. The result is that the M6 is the easiest of the three to perform tail-out antics with. In terms of all-around performance and luxury, it sit somehwere between the Mercedes and Porsche, which makes it a good compromise.
