VIDEO REVIEW: 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring

For decades minivans were the go-to choice of transportation for large families and their stuff. These days, however, crossovers and SUVs have largely replaced minivans, along with just about everything else, as the default form of practical transportation. Even so, nothing quite beats a minivan for all-out practicality and spaciousness, especially when five or more passengers come along for the ride on a regular basis. One of the very best minivan options is the Honda Odyssey.

The Odyssey has been fully redesigned for the 2018 model year. Everything that made it so great, such as the slick V6 engine, excellent use of space, great build quality, and predictable reliability, remain the same. What’s been added are several new features designed to make day-to-day use just that much easier. The second row “magic seats” have a removable center seat and can slide on a track for easier access to the third row. The infotainment system includes family-friendly features such as a camera and intercom for staying in touch with the kids out back. There are even various games and neat apps such as an “are we there yet?” app for keeping kids entertained. Other impressive features include heated and cooled front seats, a wireless charging pad, and an in-car vacuum cleaner.

As good as it is, the Honda Odyssey still isn’t perfect. The second row seats are heavy, tricky to remove, and, unfortunately, cannot be folded into the floor like they can on a Dodge Caravan. The infotainment system and gear selector are not ideal in terms of layout and user-friendliness. And finally, the price tag can get rather high as you move up through the trim levels. All things considered, however, the Odyssey remains a top choice among minivans. For more thoughts on the 2018 Honda Odyssey, watch this video by The Straight Pipes.
